Welcome to Chapter 292!

Who EAA offers the fun and camaraderie of sharing your passion for participating in flying, building, and restoring recreational aircraft.   Join with a passionate community of aviation enthusiasts as they pursue various aviation related interests.

Our members’ interests include amateur built experimental aircraft from plans-built aircraft to high-tech kit airplanes, general aviation aircraft, warbirds, ultralight aircraft, light sport, and antique/ classic aircraft.

What… The EAA provides a wide range of resources for our members including Technical Counselors to help aircraft builders with technical and safety advice and Flight Advisors to help pilots prepare for first flights of homebuilt aircraft.  One of our chapter’s finest assets is the varied skills and great cooperation of our members. Those with expertise in one area help other members, knowing that when they need help in another area there will be a member available with the necessary expertise.

When and Where… EAA Chapter 292 is based at the Independence State Airport, 7S5.  Monthly meetings are held at 10 AM on the second Saturday of each month, in the Chapter Hangar, 4803 Airport Road, Independence. OR 97351.    Guests are always welcome for chapter activities and the best time to visit and meet the members is at one of these meetings (10AM - 12:30PM).

292 HangarWhy… Why not!  Chapter 292 has a rich history.  Our chapter Hangar is one of the best EAA Chapter facilities in the nation.  We have an extensive complement of tools and equipment owned by the Chapter and available for use by our members.  From woodworking equipment to specialized sheet-metal tools, and equipment for tube/fabric work and fiberglass equipment, Chapter 292 has what you need for your project and members who can show you how to use it.  We even have much of the equipment to do annuals or condition inspections on aircraft.

The Chapter 292 hangar was built by the members and completed in 1998.  It was paid off completely in 2005.  The main building consists of a 40 by 70 foot meeting room / work area, kitchen, Simulator room, restrooms, and two 40 by 40 foot hangars.

The chapter has a history of aircraft projects shared by it’s members!  Currently a group project is building five DH 2 WWI fighter replicas!   See the DH 2 Project updates for more information.

Noon PatrolPast projects included  a project unique across the world, the “Noon Patrol” — a group of Chapter members built from scratch, fourteen identical replica Nieuport fighters in our Chapter hangar. These stalwart members began toiling in October 1999; the first one flew in January, 2003.

Chapter members designed and completed our own Ultralight — The Independence Flyer — which is powered by a half-VW engine.

Join Us… Some of the activities Chapter 292 sponsors are Van’s Homecoming, the Biplane Fly-in and don’t forget our Young Eagles events, held twice a year to help give young people the opportunity to experience the magic of flight first hand.  Our Young Eagles are always flown one at a time so that each one has the full attention of the pilot to improve the quality of their experience.

Each month over a thousand local EAA Chapters around the world get together to enjoy the camaraderie of a group of people that share their enthusiasm for aviation. The only requirement to join is an interest in aviation.  So bring your enthusiasm and join us!
