Kristin is preparing for her written exam for Gliders, along with studying and crewing for other students at the Independence Glider Club. In one month, she donated 33.5 hours to studying, crewing, and a work day! She logged 1.8 hours in the glider. Keep up the good work, Kristin!

She did keep up the good work! Kristin has been pursuing her Private Pilot License and look what she's done.

Oct 12, 2022 Passed PP Written Exam

Nov 15, 2022 Passed her Private Pilot Checkride. And she did it with a tailwheel endorsement.

Zach Lopez is our chapter’s second Ray Scholarship winner this year. He was awarded a five-thousand-dollar scholarship for Gliders. His instructor is Marici Reid, CFII, who is a flight instructor for the Independence Glider Club.

The Ray Scholarship

 

“The Ray Aviation Scholarship program is supported by the Ray Foundation, managed by EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), and administered by your local EAA chapter. Through the generous support of the Ray Foundation, EAA will provide up to $10,000 to deserving youths for their flight training expenses, totaling nearly $1.2 million in scholarships annually.

 

Through the Ray Aviation Scholarship program, EAA and the Ray Foundation strive to make a positive impact on youths and young adults alkie. James Ray firmly believed in the life skills, discipline, character, and confidence taught throughout the flight training journey. This program strives to teach those skills, as well as help outstanding young adults earn their pilot certificate.”

 

As of October 2020, EAA Chapter 292 will have been awarded three Ray Scholarships to the following students:

 

2019 Anders Walter $10,000 Private Certificate

 

2020 Kristin Taylor $5,000 Glider Rating

2020 Zach Lopez  $5,000 Glider Rating
