Teen Aviation Weekends
Teen Aviation Weekend
2019 - TBD
Young people recruited from communities around Independence, EAA Young Eagles Rallies and private home/school environments, are invited to attend free, exciting, informative and hands-on two day aviation and aerospace workshop. These interested young people participate, at no cost, in a learning experience, presented by experts in their fields, where they learn about forces of flight, and aerodynamics, weather for aviators, navigation, the national airspace system, aircraft construction techniques, the legacy of the Wright brothers and women in aviation. During the workshop they build a flying model airplane and use it to complete flying tasks such as greatest distance flown, longest flight duration and lightest airplane. The participants also learn about radio controlled aircraft and un-manned aerial systems along with how to access internship and scholarship opportunities. These STEM oriented Teen Aviation Weekends are held the third weekend in October.
